Nothing says "party unity" quite like two prominent Republican senators allegedly throwing a wrench into one of the biggest investigations their own base is salivating over. According to Just The News editor John Solomon, who made the claims on Steve Bannon's War Room (Bannon is a fat POS by the way), Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senator Tom Cotton have been sitting on critical transcripts of former CIA Director John Brennan's interviews for roughly four months now. Four months! That's longer than most people keep their New Year's resolutions.
Solomon didn't mince words, declaring with "100% certainty" that members of the GOP are getting in the way of the weaponization probe. He specifically pointed out that the Department of Justice first came knocking for these Senate Intelligence Committee transcripts back around late January or early February, and Thune and Cotton have basically been giving investigators the legislative equivalent of a "we'll get back to you" email that never comes.
But Solomon wasn't done handing out participation trophies in obstruction. He also took aim at acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, wondering aloud why the DOJ hasn't simply slapped the Senate with a subpoena. Solomon noted that in every comparable situation throughout American history, from Watergate to Iran Contra, the Justice Department compelled Congressional compliance through legal means. Apparently this time around, Blanche, who reportedly wants the AG job permanently, has chosen to just wait patiently like someone standing in line at the DMV.
The transcripts in question aren't exactly trivial reading material. They relate to Brennan's role in the January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment about Russian election interference, the infamous Steele dossier, and allegations of collusion involving the 2016 Trump campaign. These documents could determine whether prosecutors in Miami have enough to bring charges against Brennan himself.
Back in April, it was reported that Assistant Attorney General Patrick Davis had sent formal letters requesting completely unredacted copies of classified and unclassified transcripts, depositions, and hearing records. The letters set a compliance deadline of February 23, 2026. By mid April, roughly two months past that deadline, the Senate still hadn't handed over a single page. Meanwhile, the House had already voted to send along comparable evidence, making the Senate look like that one group project member who never does their part.
Solomon called the whole situation "ridiculous" on both political and practical grounds, arguing that a grand jury subpoena should already be collecting dust in the Senate clerk's office and that a court case should have been filed "yesterday." He estimated that two Republican senators have effectively delayed the Justice Department's work by eight full months.
The grand jury investigation, based out of Fort Pierce, Florida, is examining whether certain Obama and Biden administration officials conspired to misuse law enforcement and intelligence capabilities. Former U.S. Attorney Joe diGenova is reportedly playing a central role in that effort. So basically, we have Republicans blocking a Republican investigation while a Republican DOJ watches from the sidelines. Politics truly is the greatest reality show ever produced.
