Nothing says "everything is fine" quite like a guy's personal journal potentially blowing up his entire legacy. As Conservative Brief reported, former CDC Director Robert Redfield is pointing to recently surfaced excerpts from Anthony Fauci's private diaries and basically saying, "See? We told you something was off."
Redfield, who ran the CDC during Trump's first term from 2018 through early 2021, hopped on the "John Solomon Reports" podcast this week to discuss diary passages that Kentucky Senator Rand Paul recently made public. And boy, did he have thoughts.
Apparently one of the journal entries describes Fauci getting his COVID vaccine and subsequently developing a pulmonary embolism. Redfield noted that microcoagulation and embolism are now recognized as significant injuries linked to mRNA vaccines. So basically, the guy who was America's top vaccine cheerleader may have personally experienced a serious adverse event and, according to Redfield, nobody heard about it when it mattered. Cool, cool, cool.
"I believe the American public was misled in that regard too," Redfield said, which is the polite version of what a lot of people have been screaming into the void for years.
But wait, there's more! Redfield also took aim at the whole "get vaccinated so you don't kill grandma" messaging campaign, calling it flatly untrue. His argument? The vaccines never actually stopped people from catching and spreading the virus, so telling parents to jab their kids to protect elderly relatives was, in his words, "just a false statement." That's a former CDC director saying the messaging from his own government was bogus. Let that sink in.
Redfield also got a little sentimental, reflecting on his professional relationship with Fauci stretching all the way back to the 1980s. He called himself "very disheartened" because Fauci accomplished a lot of good work over his lengthy career. But Redfield predicted that most Americans will ultimately associate Fauci with his recent Senate appearance, where the former NIAID director invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination while being questioned by lawmakers. Nothing screams "I was totally transparent" like pleading the Fifth.
Speaking of that Senate showdown, Rand Paul revealed that if the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee votes to hold Fauci in contempt of Congress, the resolution could get shipped straight to the Department of Justice for potential criminal consideration. Paul noted that this is an actual law, not just political theater. Although in Washington, those two things are often indistinguishable.
Fauci, for his part, has consistently denied intentionally misleading anyone. He maintains that his recommendations were based on the best available science at the time and that guidance naturally evolved as researchers learned more about the virus. Which is a perfectly reasonable defense, unless your own diary is out there telling a different story.
Congressional Republicans are continuing their deep dive into pandemic era decisions covering vaccine guidance, public messaging, gain of function research, and the origins of COVID itself. One thing is certain: this saga is nowhere close to being finished.
