Jason Arday, the youngest Black professor in Cambridge University history, was discovered dead in south London at age 41.
The former academic was found unresponsive on Friday and declared deceased at the location, according to reports. His passing came just days after he stepped down from the prestigious institution on August 5, with a full-blown investigation into his credentials heating up behind the scenes.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the grim discovery. Officers informed his family and are providing support during this time. Authorities say the death is categorized as unexpected but not considered suspicious at this point. Detectives from the Met's Central South Command Unit are handling the case, and a file will be sent to the coroner.
So what exactly led to Arday's dramatic fall from grace? The sociology of education professor had been celebrated as a trailblazer, becoming a symbol for diversity and DEI efforts at Britain's most elite universities. Liberals across the UK held him up as a shining example of progress in higher education. He was, by many accounts, the poster boy for those initiatives.
