Dolly Parton's Doctor Grounds Her Over Dizziness and Dehydration

Dolly Parton's physician banned her from traveling this week due to dizziness and dehydration. The 80-year-old country legend was forced to skip the grand unveiling of a massive new ride at her own theme park, delivering her remarks via a prerecorded video instead, as reported.

Parton had every intention of showing up for the August 14 dedication of NightFlight Expedition, a wild indoor adventure coaster at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. But her Nashville doctor put the brakes on that real quick. In the video, filmed at her home with butterfly wings fluttering behind her, Parton quipped that the doc had "clipped" her wings for the week.

"I get a little dizzy and I get dehydrated. And I'm dehydrated," Parton told the assembled crowd. She added with her signature humor that when your doctor says you're not going anywhere, well, you're not going anywhere. The attraction opened to regular visitors on August 19.

But here's where things get deeper. This isn't just a one-off health blip. Parton has been battling recurring kidney stones along with problems affecting her immune and digestive systems. The situation got serious enough that she pulled the plug on a highly anticipated Las Vegas residency back in May, telling fans she wasn't physically ready to perform at full capacity yet.

That Vegas engagement was originally slated for December 2025 before getting pushed to September 2026. Now it's been scrapped entirely. Parton explained that her medications were leaving her feeling "swimmy-headed," borrowing a phrase from her grandmother. She joked about the impossibility of getting dizzy while hauling banjos and guitars around in rhinestone outfits and five-inch heels. Fair point, honestly.

Parton also revealed that doctors have been working to get her immune and digestive health back on track after both systems, in her words, went haywire over the past couple of years. She's dealt with kidney stones so frequently that she cracked a joke about doctors pulling more rocks out of her than a quarry in Rockwood, Tennessee. One of those stones triggered an infection last September that caused her to miss the original announcement for the NightFlight Expedition ride.

All of this health turbulence comes during an incredibly painful chapter in Parton's personal life. Her husband Carl Dean passed away on March 3, 2025, at 82 years old. They had been married for nearly six decades. Parton has spoken openly about how tough it has been navigating holidays, their anniversary, and the anniversary of his death during her first year without him.

Despite being homebound, Parton insists she's far from idle. She's plugging away on the SongTeller Hotel, the Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville, and continues reworking her autobiographical Broadway production. She assured fans that her medical situation is improving and that her doctors have confirmed everything she's dealing with is treatable.

True to form, Parton closed her video message with pure sunshine, congratulating the Dollywood crew on their new attraction and promising fans she'd catch them "down the road." Nobody does resilience quite like Dolly.
