If you want to witness political spine dissolving in real time, look no further than Michigan Rep. Debbie Dingell's appearance on Fox News this Monday. As USA Journal reported, Bill Hemmer asked her a pretty straightforward question: DSA-backed Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has publicly stated Israel has no right to exist. Can you get behind that? Dingell said no. Simple enough, right? Then Hemmer followed up with the obvious next question: so why are you endorsing the guy?
Her response was truly a work of art in the genre of saying absolutely nothing while sounding very serious. She told Hemmer, "I have told Abdul exactly what I think." Wow, she told him what she thinks! Problem solved, everyone! Pack it up! She expressed her feelings, and he completely ignored them, and now she's going to campaign for him anyway. That's not politics, that's a bad relationship.
Jonathan Turley summed up the whole situation pretty perfectly, calling it "part of the delusion of the establishment that they can use these radicals to regain power but remain untouched." During the segment, Hemmer kept pressing Dingell, who reportedly resorted to denouncing "labels" while brushing off the fact that El-Sayed has taken aim at borders, police, and Israel.
So here's the Democratic establishment's brilliant master plan: let the Democratic Socialists of America and folks like Hasan Piker generate all the enthusiasm and voter turnout, ride that energy to a majority, and then somehow magically reassert control over a caucus that just watched leadership abandon every supposed principle. What could possibly go wrong?
El-Sayed, who is backed by Piker, the DSA, and a whole socialist organizing machine, looks poised to grab the Michigan Senate nomination in Tuesday's primary. His platform includes defunding the police, denying Israel's right to exist, and DSA-aligned socialism across every policy area. His top supporter has openly declared their ultimate goal is communism. The DSA co-chair went on Fox News and confirmed the organization wants to get rid of the Senate, the presidency, the Supreme Court, military spending, and prisons. And Debbie Dingell committed to helping him win.
The party keeps talking about their "big tent," which is adorable. When your tent welcomes people who want to demolish every institution holding the tent poles up, you don't have a big tent. You have a tent that's about to collapse on everyone inside it.
The DSA has been racking up primary victories in New York, Colorado, California, and now potentially Michigan with a level of consistency that no amount of establishment endorsements, party committee cash, or Debbie Dingell's strongly worded private conversations has managed to slow down.
If El-Sayed wins in November, the DSA's next move won't be sending a thank you card. It'll be more primaries, more takeovers, and more of this pattern until the establishment becomes a relic inside its own party. Dingell surrendered the fight on national television without even realizing she did it. The DSA, on the other hand, knows exactly what happened. That gap in awareness is really the entire story here.
