In what has become a recurring ritual in Washington, yet another federal official has dramatically packed up their desk and stormed out the door, but not before firing off a spicy LinkedIn post for all their professional connections to enjoy.
Marc Rosenblum, who ran the Office of Homeland Security Statistics and held the title of deputy assistant secretary, announced his resignation over the weekend in a social media farewell that read less like a professional goodbye and more like a breakup text. As Conservative Brief reported, Rosenblum spent over ten years at DHS before deciding he'd finally had enough of the current administration.
In his LinkedIn post, Rosenblum said he was "sad to suspend" his public service career but "thrilled to end" his relationship with the Trump administration. He then rattled off a grocery list of grievances, citing what he called a "war on immigrants," a "war on feds," a "war on facts," plus complaints about Iran and "brazen corruption." That's a lot of wars for one LinkedIn post. Most people just use that platform to humble brag about promotions and share articles nobody reads.
Rosenblum, who somehow managed to serve under both Trump's first term AND the Biden administration, said he's looking forward to finding work that aligns with his values "and those of most other Americans." Nothing says humility quite like appointing yourself spokesperson for the entire nation on your way out the door.
His office was responsible for compiling official data on border encounters, deportations, ICE detentions, cybersecurity threats, and trafficking investigations. So basically the guy in charge of the numbers decided the numbers weren't telling the story he wanted.
A DHS spokesperson responded with the bureaucratic equivalent of a shrug, telling reporters that "people are always welcome to their opinion" but that doesn't make it "right or factual." Cold, efficient, and probably typed while eating a sandwich.
Here's where things get interesting though. Public DHS data dashboards that track metrics like ICE detentions and Border Patrol encounters reportedly haven't been updated since February 2025. So the statistics office might want to, you know, update some statistics before the next person takes over.
Rosenblum joins a growing parade of departing DHS officials since Trump's second inauguration, including the acting ICE director and multiple acting FEMA chiefs. Former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was also previously dismissed along with her top deputies. At this rate, DHS is going to need a revolving door installed at the entrance.
Conservative critics pointed out that calling standard deportation procedures and border enforcement a "war on immigrants" is exactly the kind of thinking that led to record border crossings under previous leadership. Meanwhile, Rosenblum's supporters see his departure as proof that the current environment is hostile to career professionals.
Regardless of where you stand politically, you have to admire the boldness of choosing LinkedIn as your platform for a political manifesto. Most people can barely get engagement on their "excited to announce" posts, and this guy turned his resignation into a viral moment. Give him credit for understanding the algorithm, at least.
