Chuck Schumer is now planning to capture a Senate majority without Michigan. Let that sink in for a second. The top Democrat in the Senate is essentially redrawing his entire battle map because his own party's voters picked a candidate so far left that the state might be unwinnable in November, as reported here.
Fox News host Emily Compagno laid it all out on Friday, calling Schumer's strategy exactly what it is. Not a pep rally. Not confidence building. Pure damage control. She pointed out that Abdul El-Sayed ran explicitly on a platform opposing Schumer and tearing down the existing Democratic power structure. And he won the primary anyway.
Here is the truly jaw-dropping part of this whole mess. The socialist faction inside the Democratic Party didn't stage some hostile takeover. The establishment rolled out the red carpet for them over years of cozy accommodation. You simply cannot tell suburban swing voters your party isn't socialist when 58 percent of registered Democrats view socialism favorably. Gallup puts that number even higher at 66 percent. And when 202 out of 212 House Democrats refused to put their names on a statement declaring themselves capitalists rather than socialists, the writing was spray-painted across the wall in neon letters.
The evidence of total institutional collapse is everywhere. Hakeem Jeffries got booed at victory celebrations for his own endorsed candidates. Debbie Dingell watched El-Sayed win and immediately pledged loyalty to the full ticket. Nobody is pushing back. Nobody is drawing lines.
And the candidate Michigan Democrats chose? A guy who openly states Israel has no right to exist, backed by a Twitch streamer who praises Mao Zedong. That is who Schumer now has to figure out how to work around.
The money situation makes everything exponentially worse. The DNC is swimming in debt as midterm season approaches. Meanwhile, Republicans are sitting on a mountain of cash. The RNC holds $128.5 million. MAGA Inc. has a staggering $400 million. Total Republican committee infrastructure adds up to $677 million compared to a paltry $136 million on the Democratic side. Fighting an internal ideological war costs serious money, and the Democrats are basically broke.
Compagno summed it up with brutal honesty on The Five. She believes Democrats have already thrown in the towel. The moment El-Sayed captured that primary, the outcome for November became painfully obvious to insiders.
Before Republicans pop the champagne, though, they should recognize that this pattern feeds on itself. Some socialist candidates will absolutely lose in general elections where the electorate looks nothing like a Democratic primary. But some will win. Every victory makes the next far-left primary challenge more viable. The Democratic Socialists of America grow stronger while the establishment withers.
Fetterman is publicly calling members of his own party communists. James Carville is threatening to walk away entirely. Schumer is rerouting his entire electoral strategy. Yet absolutely no one with real power is actually stopping the leftward lurch.
The internal battle for the soul of the Democratic Party is over. The socialists claimed victory. The only remaining question is how much wreckage that victory leaves behind.
