So that whole "noncitizens never vote in American elections" talking point just took another massive hit. A 63 year old British citizen named Ada Ngozi Otuka, who lives in Houston as a lawful permanent resident, just pleaded guilty to casting ballots illegally in five separate American elections spanning from 2012 to 2024, as USA Journal reported. Five elections. A dozen years. And nobody noticed a single thing.
Here is the truly spectacular part. The system did not catch her. No algorithm flagged her. No poll worker raised an eyebrow. She literally outed herself on a naturalization application in 2025, apparently deciding that honesty was the best policy right when she wanted to officially become an American. That is like confessing to stealing office supplies during your employee of the year interview. Bold strategy.
U.S. Attorney Aaron Reitz weighed in with the understatement of the century, saying his office is "doing its part" to keep elections free, fair, and secure. Cool. Though one might argue the system that let a foreign national vote for over a decade without raising a single red flag was maybe not doing its part quite as enthusiastically.
Otuka now faces up to six years behind bars for falsely claiming citizenship, plus another year for the illegal voting itself, and potential fines reaching $250,000. And get this, her sentencing date is November 5. Election Day. You cannot make this stuff up. Somebody in the scheduling department either has zero awareness or an absolutely legendary sense of humor.
But wait, there is more! This case lands right alongside some other jaw dropping revelations. New Jersey recently acknowledged that 6,600 noncitizens wound up on voter rolls, with nearly 400 of them actually casting ballots. A judge appointed by Biden then blocked the DOJ from accessing those rolls to dig deeper. Virginia discovered 6,531 admitted noncitizens registered and agreed to pause removing them close to elections. The Trump administration declassified intelligence showing 270,000 noncitizen registrations across just four states that cooperated with investigators.
Meanwhile, states like California, Michigan, Minnesota, and New Jersey are reportedly blocking federal access to their voter registration data, which is totally what you do when you have nothing to worry about. "No officer, you cannot look in my trunk. Everything is completely fine."
Seven Republican senators are now holding up the August recess demanding a vote on the SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship for voter registration and better cross referencing with immigration databases. You know, the kind of basic verification that literally every other country on Earth considers common sense.
The bottom line is pretty simple. Ada Otuka voted illegally for twelve straight years, and the only reason we know about it is because she told on herself. That is not election security. That is crossing your fingers and hoping for the best. Every one of those fraudulent ballots effectively canceled out a legitimate American vote, and the only firewall between the system and fraud was apparently the honor system.
