The concept? Obama picked half a dozen books that shaped how he views politics, faith, race, and life in America, and he wants to talk about them with some "friends" whose identities remain conveniently under wraps. That guest list is the juiciest mystery surrounding this whole thing.
So what landed on the former commander in chief's elite reading roster? James Baldwin's "The Fire Next Time," Toni Morrison's "Song of Solomon," Cormac McCarthy's "All the Pretty Horses," Marilynne Robinson's "Gilead," Robert Penn Warren's "All the King's Men," and John le Carré's "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." The selections cover everything from racial identity to political corruption to Cold War espionage. Subtle!
