Ashley Moody Cruises To Victory In Florida GOP Senate Primary

Ashley Moody just steamrolled her Republican opponents in Florida's Senate primary.

The former attorney general turned U.S. Senator crushed challengers Chris Gleason, Neelam Perry, and Ernie Rivera in what everyone already knew was a total blowout. As reported, the contest was widely considered noncompetitive from the jump, with Moody facing virtually zero serious opposition. The August 18, 2026, primary was essentially a coronation.

So how did Moody land in the Senate in the first place? Buckle in for the political chain reaction. When Marco Rubio got unanimously confirmed as Donald Trump's Secretary of State and resigned his seat, Governor Ron DeSantis swooped in on January 16, 2025, to hand Moody the gig. Standing at a podium in Orlando, DeSantis called her a "law and order" champion who would help Trump slam the border shut, tackle inflation, and reign in what he called a federal bureaucracy gone wild.

Five days later, Vice President JD Vance administered her oath of office, making Moody only the second woman ever to represent the Sunshine State in the upper chamber. The first? Republican Paula Hawkins way back in the 1980s. Talk about an exclusive club.

Moody's resume reads like a conservative fantasy draft pick. Born in Plant City, known as the "Winter Strawberry Capital of the World," she stacked up degrees from the University of Florida and Stetson University before working as a commercial litigator and then an assistant U.S. attorney going after drug dealers and fraudsters. At just 31 years old, she became the youngest circuit court judge in Florida history. By 2018, she had won the attorney general's office and immediately started launching lawsuits against the Biden administration over immigration, COVID mandates, student loan forgiveness, and more.

Her endorsement list is absolutely stacked. President Trump gave her what he called his "Complete and Total Endorsement," declaring in all caps, "SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN." Florida Senator Rick Scott called her a "fearless leader." Ted Cruz, Tommy Tuberville, the NRA, the Senate Conservatives Fund, the Florida Chamber of Commerce, and every single one of Florida's 15 Republican state attorneys general threw their weight behind her. Law enforcement organizations lined up behind her like she was giving away free body cams.

DeSantis also pulled off a quick political two-for-one, tapping his chief of staff James Uthmeier to take over as attorney general when Moody departed.

Under Florida law, Moody now heads into a November special election to keep the seat through the remainder of Rubio's term, which expires January 3, 2027. After that, voters get another crack at it in 2028. Fun fact that makes Republican strategists drool: in 2022, Moody actually pulled in more votes statewide than DeSantis himself.

Her stated mission? Pretty simple. "America first. Get it done." She joined the Armed Services Committee, leaned into border security priorities, and pledged to deliver Trump's agenda from the moment she arrived. Whether you love her politics or not, there is no denying this woman collects political victories like frequent flyer miles.
