A Florida Senate candidate praised a convicted cop killer during a speech inside a church.

Angie Nixon, a Democratic Socialists of America member currently serving in the Florida state legislature, dropped a quote from Assata Shakur while campaigning for the U.S. Senate. For those unfamiliar, Shakur is a Marxist revolutionary who once landed on the FBI's most wanted terrorists list for killing a police officer. And Nixon called her a "famous freedom fighter" before reciting her words to a church audience, according to reports.

Nixon told the crowd, "It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love and protect one another. We have nothing to lose but our chains." She then launched into a lengthy rant connecting those "chains" to everything from attacks on voting rights to school closures to billion dollar ballrooms that regular folks will "never, ever get to dance in." She also blasted law enforcement for not arresting "corrupt cops" and accused officials of refusing to label a mass shooter who targeted Black people at a Dollar General as a racist.

Here is where it gets really spicy politically. Nixon actually defeated Alex Vindman, the Trump critic turned Democratic candidate, in Florida's primary. She is now headed to the general election where Republican Rep. Ashley Moody stands in her way this November.

And her platform? Oh, it is a doozy. A trip to her campaign website reveals something called the "Working Families Guarantee," which is basically a grab bag of free everything. We are talking Medicare for All, free childcare, paid family and sick leave at no cost, a national rent freeze, a halt on evictions, and a universal jobs program. Someone is going to have to explain where the money tree is located.

But wait, there is more. Nixon wants to completely dismantle ICE and rebuild immigration enforcement "from scratch." Her vision includes a fast track to citizenship for Dreamers and undocumented residents, plus a full stop on deportations until enforcement practices get audited. When pressed on whether she supports open borders during an appearance on MS Now, she sidestepped and said she backs "a comprehensive and clear pathway to citizenship for folks."

She has also openly admitted to bringing her children to drag shows, calling them "wholesome" entertainment. And she has been a vocal advocate for bringing back Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion policies.

So let us recap. A DSA candidate who quotes cop killers in churches, wants to abolish ICE, hand out citizenship, freeze rents, and thinks drag shows are family fun just won a Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate in Florida. She beat a guy famous for impeaching Trump, and now she is marching toward November like none of this is controversial.

Florida voters are going to have quite the choice on their ballots. Whether Nixon's platform is a progressive dream or a political nightmare depends entirely on which side of the aisle you sit on. One thing is certain, this race just became one of the wildest in the country.
