A federal judge called Ghislaine Maxwell's legal filing "lengthy and rambling" before tossing it in the bin.
Maxwell, currently cooling her heels at a minimum security prison camp in Bryan, Texas, tried to get her 2021 conviction and 20-year sentence thrown out. She wrote the petition herself, which is always a fantastic sign that things are going great for a defendant. U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer rejected the whole thing on August 25 in a 67-page decision that basically amounted to the legal equivalent of "no, and also no, and furthermore, absolutely not."
Maxwell filed her original petition on December 17, 2025, then added a supplement in April 2026, and then tacked on ANOTHER unauthorized supplement in July. Imagine sending your professor three drafts of a paper nobody asked for and still getting an F.
Her big argument centered on documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Congress passed in November 2025. She claimed these millions of pages proved her constitutional rights were violated. The judge looked through everything and determined that the materials were either totally irrelevant to her case or, get this, actually made her look MORE guilty. That is genuinely impressive. She essentially submitted evidence against herself.
Some of her claims had already been shot down by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in 2024. She recycled them anyway, like leftovers nobody wanted the first time around. These included allegations about a juror who disclosed a personal history of sexual abuse after the verdict, arguments that a 2007 deal involving Epstein should have shielded her from prosecution, and complaints about evidence presented at trial.
Judge Engelmayer found that every single claim was without merit and declared all or nearly all of them frivolous. The vast majority were procedurally barred because they had either already been decided against her or she failed to show the required legal justification for raising them now. The court certified that any appeal from this ruling would not be taken in good faith. Translation: don't even think about it.
Maxwell was convicted on five of six counts back in 2021, including conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors and actual sex trafficking of a minor. She received a 240-month sentence the following year. The crimes occurred between 1994 and 2004, during which she helped Jeffrey Epstein recruit, groom, and facilitate the abuse of underage girls, some only 14 years old. Trial evidence showed she identified potential victims, befriended them, normalized inappropriate behavior, and arranged their travel to Epstein's properties.
So to recap: Maxwell wrote her own legal petition from prison, submitted it three times, cited millions of pages of documents that actually hurt her case, rehashed arguments that courts already rejected, and got called rambling by a federal judge who took 67 pages just to explain how wrong she was. That is a masterclass in wasting everyone's time.
