Oregon and other states SUE Trump admin for taking SNAP away from ILLEGALS

(Crankers) SNAP is a big issue right now and lawsuits are flying in.

President Trump’s administration was sued by Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield, along with 21 other state attorneys general. Unlawful cut off food assistance was the argument for thousands of legal immigrants who are living in the United States. Rayfield mentions that it is unacceptable for the world’s most powerful and wealthiest country to face hunger.

The lawsuit challenges guidance issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on October 31 regarding changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. The guidance followed President Donald Trump’s signing of the “Big Beautiful Bill” this summer.

According to the attorneys general, USDA now claims that all people who entered the United States for humanitarian reasons, such as refugees or asylum seekers, are permanently ineligible for SNAP benefits, even if they later obtain green cards and become lawful permanent residents. The new law narrowed eligibility for some non-citizens, but the lawsuit states that the USDA guidance exceeds what Congress authorized. They argue it wrongly excludes lawful permanent residents who remain eligible under federal law.

Rayfield said he and others were initially surprised by the policy, since it appeared to contradict the law’s clear provisions. He questioned why the USDA would remove benefits from people who are legally permitted to receive them.

The letter in which the attorneys general are asking the agency for the withdrawal or at least the clarification of the withdrawal was sent to the USDA on November 19. They are asking the court to declare the USDA guidance unlawful, but still, they have received no reply.

Maybe we start spending money on Americans and no one else!
