A man is recovering after a violent attack in Rochester left one of his hands severed Sunday night, according to police.
Officers responded around 8:20 p.m. to the area of Clifford Avenue and Joseph Avenue after receiving reports of a possible stabbing. When they arrived, they found bystanders already helping the 42-year-old victim.
Police said the man had suffered injuries that severed one of his hands. Officers applied a tourniquet before he was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery.
Authorities said the victim is expected to survive.
During the investigation, officers searched a nearby apartment and found evidence that indicated shots had been fired. Police also recovered an AR-style rifle and a 12-inch fixed-blade knife.
Investigators have not announced any arrests or released details about what led to the attack.
