(Crankers) Oregon State Rep. Cyrus Javadi will seek reelection as a Democrat after deciding it would be too difficult to win as a Republican. News reports say he already switched his voter registration before this week’s Sept. 4 deadline.
Javadi stated on Facebook: “I didn’t run for office to chant slogans or toe a party line” and talked about things such as roads, hospitals, free speech, and safe neighborhoods. He suggested that the Republican Party was abandoning those things and they’ve changed, but he has not.
Critics say it’s quite the opposite, with Republicans still focusing on many, if not all, of those important issues. One contradictory point is that President Donald Trump is vehemently trying to crackdown on crime in hopes to provide safer neighborhoods, so it’s unclear what Javadi is trying to say.
Javadi was the only Republican who voted with Democrats in favor of funding road maintenance and avoiding layoffs at Oregon’s Department of Transportation. Although, it is very unclear what else was being voted on as many good bills might be packaged with bills that are bad or lack common sense – or even cost the taxpayer too much money.
A handful of critics believe Javadi could be flip-flopping to join Democrats as a path to continue a political career, rather than moving on to something else.
