So they’re lying about it."  The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, introduced as H.R. 22 in the 119th Congress (2025-2026) by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), is a bill aimed at ensuring only U.S. citizens register to vote in federal elections. It requires individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a passport, birth certificate, or REAL ID-compliant identification indicating citizenship, when registering or updating voter registration. The bill also mandates states to verify citizenship, establish processes for alternative evidence if primary documents are unavailable, and remove non-citizens from voter rolls. It imposes criminal penalties on election officials who register applicants without proper citizenship proof and allows private citizens to sue non-compliant officials.
