In the days following his unprecedented indictment by a Manhattan prosecutor, Donald Trump’s campaign has reported raising $15.4 million from small-dollar donors. Nearly 98% of the donations came from individuals who contributed less than $200, and 24% of the donors were first-time contributors to Trump’s campaign. The average donation during this period was less than $50.
This surge in donations comes after a lackluster start to Trump’s fundraising efforts. In the first quarter, he raised a total of $18.8 million, which included a $4 million donation the day after his indictment. This was less than the $20.4 million he raised in the fourth quarter of 2022, which included $9.5 million after announcing his third run for the White House on November 15, reported Bloomberg.
The charges against Trump, which were unsealed on April 4 during his arraignment, were brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and relate to alleged improper payments made during his first White House run, including to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
The former president Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Democrats might be scrambling to find a new candidate for 2024 if Joe Biden is unwell.
