President Donald Trump has been banned from Facebook and Instagram indefinitely as stated in a blog post by Mark Zuckerberg. He stated that Trump’s decision to use Facebook to condone the horrific behavior and actions of his supporters, instead of condemning it, has caused disturbance.
Facebook removed statements made by the president on the grounds his words might “provoke further violence.” Zuckerberg stated the ban on Trump would be indefinite and last at least until the peaceful transition of power to Joe Biden.
We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great. Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete.
A statement was also made on Facebook’s Newsroom Twitter page. That statement said, “We believe the risks of allowing President Trump to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great, so we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks.”
President Donald Trump also faces bans from other platforms, such as the popular streaming platform called Twitch, as reported by The Verge. Trump’s account on Twitch is also banned indefinitely after what happened at the Capitol. A Twitch spokesperson stated the following, “Given the current extraordinary circumstances and the President’s incendiary rhetoric, we believe this is a necessary step to protect our community and prevent Twitch from being used to incite further violence.”
Twitch will revisit the account ban after Trump leaves the White House and make a decision later to reinstate his account or not.
