Things just get more interesting for salon owner Shelley Luther. So far, she’s been arrested and jailed for opening her salon in defiance of Texas state executive orders. Then, she’s fined $7,000. Then she’s set free after Texas attorney general demands the judge who locked her up, set her free. Her good luck kept going as she learns about the Go Fund Me set up in her honor which has topped $500,000.
And to top that all off, Senator Ted Cruz stopped by Salon à la Mode for a haircut, giving her some of the best free publicity one could ask for.
Ted Cruz stated, “we’re thrilled to be with you and know the whole State of Texas is standing with you, so thank you for your courage,” as noted by CBS Local.
Cruz’s wife was also worried that Ted might bring back the mullet if he didn’t get his hair cut soon.
Hair salons & barbershops are open in TX today. Just got my hair cut for first time in 3 months at Salon ALa Mode to support Shelley Luther, who was wrongly imprisoned when she refused to apologize for trying to earn a living. Glad Shelley is out of jail & her business is open! pic.twitter.com/yJD8fWb84W

Part of the reason Luther has been in the news so much is Eric Moye, the State District Judge, who kept going after her. He wanted her to pay $500 for each day the salon was open until today, on top of an extra $3,500.
But that’s not even the biggest part of the story that pushed her into the spotlight. Luther got something in the mail. It was a cease-and-desist from Judge Clay Jenkins of Dallas County. He ordered her to close her salon, but Luther ripped that letter up – part of what turned her into a major news story in the first place.
CBS continued their report, stating that Luther was in tears as she thanks Ted Cruz for stopping by to show his support. Cruz responded that they like to reach out when they see people exhibit “true authenticity.”
Other notable stopped by for a quick visit or reached out via phone call. People such as Sarah Palin, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, and President Trump have acknowledged Shelley Luther. President Donald Trump was speaking with Texas Governor Greg Abbott who mentioned her story and how she was being released from jail.
The Go Fund Me has settled down as donations trickle in, but it was running super fast and grew to $500,000 in days. It remains unclear if Luther has received the money, or what she plans to do with it.
We do not have any details on that particular situation at the time.
