Russia imposed sanctions on President Biden, his son Hunter Biden, and an ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry explained that the imposed restrictions were the consequence of the “extremely Russophobic policy” led by the White House. He pointed out that numerous sanctions by the US have damaged the Russian economy.
According to the BBC, the move forbids Biden, his son, and Clinton from entering Russia and freezes any possessions they may have there. The limits were dubbed “personal sanctions” and a “stop list” founded on the “principle of reciprocity.”
Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a warning claiming that other “Russophobic” US officials, company owners, or media figures could face similar sanctions, per report.
The sanctions, which target 13 Americans, including Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, will not prevent them from communicating with Russia at a high level, according to the news agency.
National security adviser Jake Sullivan, US Agency for International Development Administrator Samantha Power, White House press secretary Jen Psaki, an ex-US ambassador to the United Nations, are among the others on the list.
Russia slapped identical sanctions against 313 Canadians, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and a couple of his cabinet ministers.
