President Joe Biden wanted Florida National Guard troops to travel to Washington DC for the State of the Union address, but Gov. Ron DeSantis denied the president and said no members of their guard will be sent to Washington.
DeSantis made the decision to reject Joe Biden’s request public on a tweet, saying: “Last week, the Biden Administration requested the assistance of State National Guards to deploy to Washington D.C. I have rejected this request — there will be no @FLGuard sent to D.C. for Biden’s State of the Union.”
When it comes to the Capitol, the fencing has returned in preparation of the SOTU. PBS reported: “The fencing around the U.S. Capitol is back up for the president’s State of the Union address on Tuesday. Police cars with flashing lights are stationed at major intersections and highways. The U.S. National Guard is on standby. It’s the new normal. While there are no specific or credible threats related to President Joe Biden’s speech, law enforcement officials are taking no chances following the events of Jan. 6, 2021, when a violent mob caught the District of Columbia by surprise and successfully stormed the U.S. Capitol, briefly disrupting the certification of Biden’s 2020 presidential victory.”
The National Guard is apparently on standby, but DeSantis doesn’t want his men and women being used for the SOTU.
