DeSantis made Lori Lightfoot look really bad while touting special program for cops
Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis made Chicago’s Mayor Lori Lightfoot look pretty bad when he promoted his special program for police officers in Florida. He was speaking at an invite-only event in crime-ridden Chicago where Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been a complete failure and it might have police officers in the city thinking about relocating somewhere that cops are treated better and where criminals aren’t running the streets or the government offices (it’s a joke, I think).
WIFR reported on the private DeSantis discussion:
DeSantis told the crowded banquet hall about how Florida supports their police officers and offered incentives for CPD members to become Florida officers.
“We have this recruitment program in place,” DeSantis said. “If you have any of our agencies – city, county, state sworn law enforcement – you get a $5,000 signing bonus right off the top.”
Illinois state Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) – who ran unsuccessfully against Gov. JB Pritzker last year – was present for the event. So was DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick.
