Chuck Schumer has been vocal with immigration many times in the past, both supporting it and also striking down a path to citizenship desired by former President Donald Trump. As reported on Politico back in 2018, Schumer said then about immigration and Trump’s plan: “This plan flies in the face of what most Americans believe,” and that Donald Trump has “finally acknowledged that the Dreamers should be allowed to stay here and become citizens, he uses them as a tool to tear apart our legal immigration system and adopt the wish list that anti-immigration hard-liners have advocated for for years.”
Trump and the White House wanted $25 billion to build a border wall and increase security while restricting family-based immigration. Trump also wanted to eliminate the visa lottery system.
