Headlines are very important when it comes to journalism and this one was ridiculed by social media users. AP’s headline said, “A car has driven into a group of people at a Christmas market in Germany.” This headline suggests that the car drove itself into the crowd, but the car did not drive itself.
The tweet was ‘community noted’ on X and the fact check said: “A car has driven” implies the car drove itself, which is factually incorrect. A man from Saudi Arabia intentionally drove the car into the Christmas market as a terror attack.”
This is concerning because AP is one of the approved fact checkers and they should update the headline to be more accurate. AP has always been fair to us when we need fact checks fixed. updated, or corrected, so we will give them time to update this very misleading headline.
