The Department of Justice requested to unseal the grand jury contents from the Jeffrey Epstein criminal case and a federal judge said nope, not today! The judge suggested that unsealing the materials from the criminal case was nothing more than a diversion.
This wasn’t the first time the request was denied. federal judge denied the Trump administration’s request to unseal grand jury materials related to Jeffrey Epstein for the third and final time. Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender, died by suicide (allegedly) in jail in 2019. This decision effectively ends the DOJ’s efforts to release those grand jury materials, though the department plans to share other Epstein-related files with Congress later this week.
The judge stated, according to ABC News, “The instant grand jury motion appears to be a ‘diversion’ from the breadth and scope of the Epstein files in the Government’s possession. The grand jury testimony is merely a hearsay snippet of Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged conduct.”
Trump’s administration has faced backlash from some MAGA supporters over its decision not to release additional materials from the investigation into Epstein, following criticism received after announcing that no further files would be made public. No matter which way people look at it, it seems like the contents are going to continue being secret.
It might take a request from all the victims to get the documents fully unsealed.
