Democrat Stacey Abrams, a failed gubernatorial candidate, made an unexpected appearance as the President of United Earth in the newest episode of Star Trek: Discovery.
The United Earth president is introduced in a sequence at the end of season four’s finale, “Coming Home,” and Abrams gets several lines, saying that United Earth is ready to rejoin the Federation. She also has a conversation with Michael Burnham, the main character on Discovery, regarding Earth rejoining the Federation, which concludes the episode.
Abrams has already expressed her admiration for the Star Trek franchise, and she admitted to binge-watching Discovery throughout her campaign in a 2019 interview with The New York Times. She spoke about loving Voyager and Discovery, her sense of admiration towards the original, and utter respect for The Next Generation, per report.
Abrams reportedly spent a few days in Toronto for the cameo, according to Variety. Martin-Green told Deadline that working with Abrams was an honor for her as a Black woman. Executive producer Michelle Paradise has also expressed his admiration for Abrams and claimed that she was perfect for the role.
Paradise went on to say that the crew knew Abrams was a huge of the show and Trek in general. She was seen as the perfect actor for the role of President by the whole crew. He pointed out that Abrams did an amazing job and that all people who were a part of the process felt privileged.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Sorry, I can’t stop laughing at this.
