A small business owner is sick of criminals stealing from her store in Beverly Hills, so she created a shoplifter Hall of Shame to publicly shame them in hopes to deter other potential thieves from taking things without paying. Her name is Lisa Goodman and she’s a stylist at Kitson in Beverly Hills. She was quoted by Fox 11 saying why she’s doing the Wall of Shame: “As a small business, we feel abandoned by the authorities. With little support from the mayor or district attorney, we’ve been compelled to take matters into our own hands.”
This seems to be a problem in many cities run by Democrats where the people feel like the politicians have gone soft on crime, and the criminals feel like they can get away with anything now. You’ve probably seen videos of people walking into stores with trash bags, not even wearing a mask, and walking out with tons of merchandise and feeling like there’s no penalty for it. The Fox 11 report continued talking about Lisa’s situation in Beverly Hills:
According to Goodman, the devastating losses due to shoplifting, which run into tens of thousands of dollars across their four locations, underline the necessity of these measures.
“Sometimes they haul entire tables worth of merchandise to their cars, other times items are stuffed into pockets, or even worn out of the store,” Goodman said.
The initiative has not only been about naming and shaming. Some shoplifters, embarrassed by their public exposure, have returned stolen items to the store.
“We are publicly shaming them, and it’s our way to safeguard our business,” says Goodman.
