Word on the streets is that Sheetz is being sued for conducting background checks on employees, so they can screen for criminals. I guess Sheetz just wants to make sure people who work there don’t have a criminal record. It’s almost like Sheetz is protecting their business and their customers, but God forbid they do that. The funny part is that the lawsuit is by federal officials. Wait, the same folks connected to Joe Biden? The same Joe Biden who visited a Sheetz this week – and practically no one there cared to see him? That same fed and Biden setup? Hmmmm…. I’m not saying there’s a connection, but it sure sounds sketchy, right?
Apparently, the lawsuit is tying in discrimination saying Sheetz’s background checks are disproportionately targeting black folks or other minorities. I dunno, why don’t people stop breaking the law then? Don’t break the law if you want to work at Sheetz. Isn’t that the message we should be sending? This ain’t about discrimination, it’s about hiring people who aren’t criminals. Duh. What if someone has a history of theft charges? Obviously Sheetz wouldn’t want to hire them. They’re trying to sell products, not give them away to a thief. AP did a real news report on it that said:
The Sheetz convenience store chain has been hit with a lawsuit by federal officials who allege the company discriminated against minority job applicants.
Sheetz Inc., which operates more than 700 stores in six states, discriminated against Black, Native American and multiracial job seekers by automatically weeding out applicants whom the company deemed to have failed a criminal background check, according to U.S. officials.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed suit in Baltimore against Altoona, Pennsylvania-based Sheetz and two subsidary companies, alleging the chain’s longstanding hiring practices have a disproportionate impact on minority applicants and thus run afoul of federal civil rights law.
Sheetz responded by saying it doesn’t tolerate discrimination of any kind. They also said they’ve been working with EEOC for almost eight years so they can resolve the dispute about this. You know what’s funny? That we’re in America and the people who filed this lawsuit are the same people running this country into the ground.
Every business in America should be allowed to do background checks to screen for criminals. These folks are running a business and they want to make sure their employees are responsible, safe, and most likely to show up to work. It should be up to the job to decide who to hire, and even if this lawsuit goes through – you know they’re gonna do their background checks anyway.
America should be sending a bigger message. It’s called STOP BREAKING THE LAW.
