Now is the time for Republicans to decide whether to back Trump or the Constitution, said Rep. Liz Cheney during a speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. She suggests people cannot be loyal to both, even though that is a decision for each individual to make on their own – because yes, they can.
A day after White House employee Cassidy Hutchinson’s shocking testimony revealed new information about the highest echelons of the White House in the last days and hours before the vicious Capitol attack, Rep. Liz Cheney leaned into her message.
During her speech, Cheney embraced her new role as the anti-Trump GOP and stated, “attempting to unravel the foundations of our constitutional republic.” The Wyoming Republican, who hasn’t ruled out running for president in 2024, made comments that helped pave the way for such a run.
The vice-chair of the Jan. 6 committee went back to the weeks prior to the Jan. 6 riots, focusing on Trump’s attempt to retain power, emphasizing the fact that he was enraged. Cheney claimed that Trump was summoning rioters to D.C. Hutchinson’s testimony revealed that Chief of Staff Mark Meadows indicated Trump felt that “Mike deserves it.” Cheney went on to criticize the Republicans and officials who “made themselves willing hostages to this dangerous and irrational man.”
Cheney addressed the crowd at a location that has been associated with Republican values, exemplified by Ronald Reagan’s presidency. She said, “It’s undeniable. It’s also painful for Republicans to accept. And I think we all have to recognize and understand what it means to say those words and what it means that those things happened.”
“But the reality that we face today as Republicans — as we think about the choice in front of us — we have to choose. Because Republicans cannot both be loyal to Donald Trump and loyal to the Constitution.”
Cheney claimed she is a conservative Republican and someone who values limited government, a strong national defense, low taxes, and family that should be the focus of Americans’ lives. Cheney is in danger of losing her primary for her Wyoming House seat. She criticized the Biden administration’s monetary policies and the record-breaking inflation that is causing mayhem to the American people.
She said that “the threat posed by Donald Trump” cannot be ignored. She went on to quote Reagan: “No party and no people and no nation can defend and perpetuate a constitutional republic if they accept a leader who’s gone to war with the rule of law, with the democratic process, or with the peaceful transition of power, with the Constitution itself.”
Cheney stated that people must be prioritized over politics and that a certain level of decency is required in a time when U.S. citizens are divided. “One of my Democratic colleagues said to me recently that he looked forward to the day when he and I could disagree again,” Cheney said. “And believe me, I share that sentiment.” She claimed that her youngest son told her on Mother’s Day that he knows she “works for America.” It made her cry.
Cheney admired Hutchinson for her patriotism and bravery, but a top secret service agent is prepared to testify and cut a major hole in her story.
“Let me also say this to all the little girls and young women who are watching tonight,” Cheney said. “These days, for the most part, men are running the world, and it is really not going well.”
Meanwhile, Joe Biden is president and her anti-male comment could be used against his administration.
Republicans can’t be loyal to Donald Trump AND the Constitution: says Liz Cheney, who’s at risk to lose primary
Did you see Donald Trump won the election against Kamala Harris? OMG WOW! The best part is watching celebrities say they'll leave America. I don't think they'll leave, but if they're offended by an election, then maybe we can help them pack? And I have the best pro-America t-shirt to show them! Tap here!
