Two massive teacher unions dumped $43.5 million into liberal advocacy groups

(Crankers) The NY Post released a news report that exposed the two largest teacher unions for dumping more than $43.5 million into liberal advocacy groups instead of into education. The unions named are the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the National Education Association (NEA).

The money was sent mostly over the last two years, particularly during the 2024 election era. At one point, they sent huge payouts to some political action committees that specifically supported Democratic candidates, according to Defending Education – a watchdog group that reported on the union disclosures released to the Department of Labor.

The biggest complaint about the information is that people preferred the money going back to the students and schools and nowhere near politics. So instead of helping teachers or students, the AFT and NEA spent over $43.5 million on things like gun control, racial equity, gender transitions for children, and even abortion access for teens. These are all things that most parents would not want money spent on when America has so many struggling schools that lack supplies.

The NY Post report made it clear to note union dues cannot be sent directly to political campaigns, but there’s always a way around that. They can make “voluntary” contributions to action funds that the members support.

However, it makes you wonder how people like Randi Weingarten, who ran the AFT, would decide on which PAC to give money to. And many people are probably asking where that money came from in the first place? And why isn’t it being used to help the students and teachers instead?
