(Crankers) Electric vehicles suffered another setback when over 208,000 of them, made by Hyundai and Kia, were recalled. There was a problem that caused the vehicles to lose drive power and have an increased crash risk.
The details, provided by CBS News, talked about 145,000 Hyundai and Genesis models, along with some of the IONIQ 5 and 6. It also included some Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 and Genesis GV80. The Kia recall mentioned 63,000 EV6 vehicles. Those were likely dated 2022 through 2024.
Owners of the electric vehicle recalls should be notified by the mail, but if you’re driving an electric vehicle by Hyundai or Kia, then you may want to check on this yourself. The CBS report further said the following:
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said the vehicles’ transistors in a charging control unit may get damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, “which can result in a loss of drive power.”
Car dealers will inspect and replace the control unit and a fuse if needed, as well as update software. Owners whose vehicles were recalled earlier this year to fix the same problem will have to visit their dealer again.
