(Crankers) In a candid interview on ABC’s The View, former President Joe Biden addressed Vice President Kamala Harris’s defeat in the 2024 presidential election, attributing her loss in part to sexist and racist attacks. Biden expressed that he was “disappointed but not surprised” by the outcome, emphasizing that Harris was highly qualified to lead the country. He noted that the campaign against her took “the sexist route,” undermining the notion that a woman, particularly one of mixed race, could lead the nation.

Biden also acknowledged his own role in the Democratic Party’s loss, citing his delayed withdrawal from the race and a poor debate performance as contributing factors. He mentioned that his decision to step aside was influenced by a desire to avoid dividing the party, even though he believed he could have won against Donald Trump if he had remained the nominee.

Despite the loss, Biden affirmed his continued support for Harris, highlighting their close working relationship during their administration and her involvement in key policy decisions.

The discussion on The View also featured differing perspectives on the factors contributing to Harris’s defeat. Co-host Sunny Hostin suggested that racism and misogyny played a role, questioning how a convicted felon could resonate more with Americans than a highly qualified woman of color. In response, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries emphasized that economic concerns were the primary driver for voters in the election, according to reports.

The debate reflects ongoing discussions within the Democratic Party about the challenges faced by candidates from diverse backgrounds and the factors influencing electoral outcomes.
