D.C. sues Trump administration over crime crackdown

(Crankers) The District of Columbia is suing the Trump administration after the President deployed the National Guard inside the boundaries of the city during a crackdown on crime. Despite the good results, the lawsuit accuses the Trump administration of committing an unconstitutional “involuntary military occupation” in the nation’s capitol.

The lawsuit was announced by the DC attorney general, who appears to believe that the military should not involve themselves in law enforcement at the domestic level – even if and when it appears to be highly needed.

Trump’s successful crackdown on DC crime has encouraged him to prepare for incursions in other cities where crime is running rampant and ruining people’s lives. Cities like Baltimore, Chicago, New Orleans, and even Portland could benefit immensely from extra help combatting criminals.

The lawsuit comes as Mr. Trump has declared the use of National Guard troops in D.C. a success, and voiced an interest in expanding his use of military assets to tackle crime in some of the nation’s largest cities, including Chicago, Baltimore and New Orleans.

D.C. Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb said in a statement to CBS: “Deploying the National Guard to engage in law enforcement is not only unnecessary and unwanted, but it is also dangerous and harmful to the District and its residents.”

However, Schwalb’s comment contradicts the results. Crime was significantly reduced while Trump’s crackdown was in place.
