Joy Behar was getting visibly angry and you gotta love to see it! After the co-host of “The View,” Sara Haines claimed during the show that former President Donald Trump will likely be restored to the ballot in Colorado and Maine, it was more than visible that co-host Joy Behar started getting a little angry with her statement on the predictions, as Haines predicted that the Supreme Court will unanimously rule in Trump’s favor and that it will do it by striking down the decisions to remove Trump from the state’s primary ballots.
Due to Trump’s alleged violation of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which states that no person may hold elected office who has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the United States, it was ruled by Democratic Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows and four of the Colorado Supreme Court’s seven justices that he was ineligible to appear on the ballot.
Haines said that she actually agrees with [California] Gov. Gavin Newsom and [political strategist] David Axelrod, saying that “these are Democrats, leading Democrats, that say this would really cause a division that’s almost insurmountable and as someone that believes January 6th was that bad…”
At that point, a surprised Behar tried to interrupt her with a question: “So what are you saying?” But Haines quickly continued her monologue, saying: “Just one second…” She then went on to say that she does not think that the Supreme Court is gonna hold this and that she thinks that they are gonna overturn it and it won’t just be the originalists.
“I bet it’s a 9-0 vote,” Haines said, adding: “I actually don’t think they will hold this.” Behar then interrupted her again, with visible anger on her face and disbelief in her voice, asking her: “So do you think they should leave it to the voters or not?” Haines then said that she believes that they do have to leave it to the voters, to which Behar responded with a short “Oh no…” – according to the Daily Caller’s political news article.
But Haines kept arguing by saying that Trump will become more of a martyr in the eyes of his voters if the court upholds the states’ decisions, as if Trump is taken off the ballot, voters will see the 2024 election as “rigged,” and that would obviously cause more conflicts for the voters as many Americans no longer “believe in democracy.” But Behar did not hesitate, so she shot back at her comments quickly as she said that she did not agree with her, adding that she thinks that the law will stand and people should follow the law. Behar then asked her: “Listen, if you’re not gonna follow an amendment, then why don’t we have Taylor Swift run for president?”
On the other side, there were arguments by the critics of the decision, including Colorado Supreme Court Justice Carlos Samour, that the amendment gives Congress the power to define “insurrection or rebellion” and that Trump has not been convicted of, or even charged with, either, so there is plenty of room for them to overturn the decision.
