(Crankers) President Donald Trump declared that those opposing tariffs are “fools” and promised to allocate the revenue from these duties toward providing a $2,000 dividend for Americans.
Nothing is set in stone for the $2,000 checks and it may never happen, so it’s just an idea for now. It’s likely meant to get people on board with supporting the tariffs, but if the checks never show up – then people who hoped for them will be let down and lose trust in Trump.
Other critics say the American government should not be sending Americans money and that it should pay the debt down instead. Either way, it’s all up in the air as usual. Just an idea for now.
Trump went off on social media, saying: “People that are against tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the richest, most respected country in the world, with almost no inflation and a record stock market price… A dividend of at least $2,000 per person (excluding high-income individuals!) will be distributed to everyone.”
Trump further emphasized that his economic policies have led to “record investment” in manufacturing plants and factories. He also claimed that the U.S. would soon begin addressing its “ENORMOUS DEBT,” which currently exceeds $38 trillion, as per the latest Treasury Department figures.
Since the introduction of his “Liberation Day” tariffs in April, tariff revenues have seen a significant increase, rising from $23.9 billion in May to $28 billion in June and $29 billion in July. For the fiscal year 2025, which ended on September 30, total duty revenue reached $215.2 billion, according to the Treasury Department’s report on “Customs and Certain Excise Taxes.”
I guess we’ll see what happens. I’ll gladly take $2k to my bank account or off my taxes if they want to send it. No one would say no to that, would they?
