(Crankers) What is happening in Minnesota? Estimates for the Somali population in Minnesota are approximately 80,000, making it home to the largest Somali community in the United States.
While official U.S. Census data can be an undercount for immigrant populations, the 80,000 figure is a widely cited community and organizational estimate that is considered the most accurate representation of the total population, including those born in the U.S. and those who arrived via migration.
U.S. Census data from 2021 indicated around 63,192 people with Somali ancestry in the state, but community leaders and various reports often cite the number as being around 80,000 or higher.
Most Somalis reside in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area, particularly in Minneapolis’ Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, though some have moved to suburbs and smaller cities like Rochester and St. Cloud.
So they love America, right? Why does it seem like politicians like Ilhan Omar sound like she hates our country and is more supportive of her own?
If she likes Somalia so much, then why not work there and serve the people? Why work in America and act like you despise it?
And if you’re wondering, this all goes back to the 90s. It’s not like it happened last night when you were sleeping.
In the early 1990s, Somalia collapsed into civil war and the U.S. accepted tens of thousands of Somali refugees. Minnesota was selected as one of the primary resettlement hubs by federal refugee agencies and nonprofits.
So blame them if you want to blame anyone for anything.
