Steve Doocy Tears Up ahead of Transition to New Role

By Frank BojaziMay 2, 2025Updated:September 1, 2025 News

Longtime Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy has officially transitioned to a new role at Fox News after nearly 30 years on the network’s flagship morning show. The announcement was made during the May 1 broadcast, where Doocy explained the details of his updated position.

Rather than retiring, Doocy will now serve as a special correspondent for Fox News and will co-host Fox & Friends remotely three days a week from Florida. He will also report from various locations around the country, focusing on stories and communities that often go underreported in national media coverage.

“This is not a goodbye,” Doocy told viewers. “I’ll still be part of the team, just not always in the studio. It’s a new chapter, and I’m excited to explore stories from across the country that matter to our viewers.”

Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott praised Doocy’s continued commitment to journalism and his willingness to adapt in a new role. “Steve is one of the most trusted voices in morning news. We’re thrilled he’ll continue to bring his journalistic integrity and personality to our viewers in this evolved capacity,” Scott said.

Doocy cited family as a major factor in his decision, expressing a desire to spend more time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. “I’ve always believed family comes first,” he said. “This move lets me do the job I love while also being there for the people I love.”

The announcement was met with widespread support, including a congratulatory message from former President Donald Trump, who called Doocy a “fantastic broadcaster” and thanked him for his years of service to Fox News.

Doocy joined Fox News in 1996 and became a co-host of Fox & Friends in 1998. Over the years, he has become one of the most recognizable faces on the network, known for his friendly demeanor and wide-ranging interviews with politicians, celebrities, and everyday Americans.

His new role is effective immediately, with on-location segments expected to begin airing later this spring.

A video of Steve Doocy tearing up upon receiving well wishes from President Donald Trump has also gone viral.
