(Crankers) According to a poll, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida is the #1 choice among Republicans for Donald Trump’s running mate if he runs for president in 2024, with Mike Pence coming in second. By a recent Morning Consult/Politico survey, 27% of Republican primary voters think Trump should select DeSantis as his prospective vice president, while 15% favor Pence.
Nikki Haley, the former US Ambassador to the United Nations, came in third with 12% of the vote. Texas Senator Ted Cruz finished fourth with 9% of the vote when asked who they would want to see as Trump’s Republican running mate.
Trump told the Washington Examiner that his relationship with Pence might be irreparably damaged after the former president failed to prevent his vice president from certifying the 2020 election results in Congress on January 6, despite the fact that Pence did not have the authority to do so in his purely ceremonial role as Senate presiding officer, said report .
“Except for one very critical event that occurred at the end, Mike and I had a terrific connection. We had a fantastic friendship, “Trump stated in his opinion. It’s been a long time since I’ve spoken to him.” After Trump reprimanded him for not reversing the election results based on bogus accusations of massive electoral fraud, Pence told Fox News in January that he and Trump had not communicated in months as a result of the aftermath.
Trump, on the other hand, remains by far the most popular candidate within his own party for the 2024 ticket, with more than half of respondents (56%) identifying him as their favorite candidate. According to the study, 82 percent of Republicans still think positively of Trump, compared to 17 percent who think negatively of the former president.
As of March 17, Trump has a 52.5 percent approval rating on average, according to a compilation of national polls gathered by the Polls United state Twitter account since November 2021, with DeSantis a distant second at 18.7 percent. With an average of 9.3 percent, Pence came in third among the GOP’s 2024 prospects.
