(Crankers) Family Endeavors, also known as Endeavors, is the nonprofit whose $18 million-a-month contract was terminated at the direction of the Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) when it was cracking down on wasteful spending.
An NBC San Antonio investigation revealed that the facility in question was empty despite ongoing payments, and also noted the organization’s sharp revenue growth. Endeavors offers a range of social services, including housing for veterans and migrants.
The lucrative sole-source contract with the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was worth about $215 million annually and was meant to operate a facility in Pecos, Texas, for unaccompanied migrant children.
DOGE, with Elon Musk serving as an advisor to the President, deemed the contract wasteful because the facility sat unused, leading HHS to end it in early 2025.
NBC found the facility indeed empty while payments continued, during which Endeavors’ annual revenue soared from $50 million in 2020 to $1.1 billion in 2022.
Endeavors explained that the agreement required them to maintain “operational readiness” for up to 3,000 children at any time, which meant covering costs for the lease, medical facilities, security, and staff even when no children were present.
They stressed that the federal government, with officials on-site daily, was responsible for deciding when the facility would be put to use.
They called claims of corruption “baseless. And someone should’ve told them that paying for an empty building is baseless, too!
However, if this was for migrants then there’s one solution that Democrats won’t say out loud, and that’s to tell the migrants to go home and spend that money on Americans instead.
