(Crankers.com) MSNBC has fired political analyst Matthew Dowd after his controversial on-air remarks about the connection between “hateful words” and “hateful actions” after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
MSNBC announced on Thursday that Dowd, a paid political analyst, is “no longer with the network.”
Dowd said the following after Charlie Kirk was shot dead: “…who is constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words which lead to hateful actions. And I think that’s the environment we’re in.”
Dowd and MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler issued public apologies in response to the backlash his comments received on social media.
Kutler posted an apology, saying Dowd’s words were “inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable,” and that “there is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise.”
Dowd’s apology was posted on Bluesky and said: “I apologize for my tone and words… Let me be clear, I in no way intended for my comments to blame Kirk for this attack. Let us all come together and condemn violence of any kind.” Here’s the video of Dowd’s comments that got him fired:
