Maxine Waters conjures 25th Amendment against Trump

By Frank BojaziAugust 31, 2025Updated:September 1, 2025 News

Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters demands the 25th Amendment be used against President Donald Trump after he had Lisa Cook fired. Cook was the Federal Reserve Governor. Many people are confused as to why Maxine Waters would want the 25th Amendment used against Trump over something as trivial as a firing.

The 25th Amendment can be used to determine if a president is fit for the job or incapacitated. It outlines procedures for temporarily or permanently transferring presidential powers to the Vice President in cases of presidential disability. This can occur if the President declares they are unable to discharge their duties, or if the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet or other body designated by Congress inform Congress in writing that the President is unable to discharge their duties.

Trump has been pressuring Jerome Powell to reduce the interest rates and targeting Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook might be part of Trump’s strategy to help Americans pay less on interest rates.

Rep. Waters was on MSNBC when she brought this up, suggesting that Donald Trump is a “danger to this country and to our democracy.” However, critics argued that her comments seemed to be based more on her personal views than Trump’s cognitive abilities or otherwise. Trump and Waters have a known distaste for each other.

When it comes to Lisa Cook being being removed, she fired back on her own with a lawsuit alleging Trump didn’t have the power to fire her. Tampa Free Press stated that she sought a restraining order in hopes to remain on the job, and that Trump’s actions did not match up with “the cause” for the standard procedures of firing someone from that position.

The outcome rests in the hands of the court.
