(Crankers) New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, challenging recent cuts to federal health programs. The lawsuit, filed in federal court, alleges that the administration’s decision to terminate these programs was abrupt, arbitrary, and lacked public input, violating administrative procedures. James argues that the cuts jeopardize critical health services and disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. The Trump administration has not yet responded publicly to the lawsuit.

This legal action is part of a broader pattern of confrontations between James and the Trump administration. Previously, James led a successful civil fraud case against Trump and his organization, resulting in a $454 million judgment, which is currently under appeal. In response to the recent lawsuit, Trump allies have initiated a federal investigation into James over alleged mortgage fraud, claims she denies as politically motivated.

The outcome of this lawsuit could have significant implications for federal health policy and the balance of powers between state and federal authorities. Legal experts suggest that the case may set important precedents regarding the scope of executive authority and the protection of public health programs, said the press release .

Donald Trump has responded to New York Attorney General Letitia James’ lawsuits with a combination of public criticism, legal challenges, and support for federal investigations into her conduct.

Trump has publicly criticized James, calling her “a total crook” and framing her legal actions against him as politically motivated. He has also filed lawsuits attempting to block her investigations, though these have been withdrawn or dismissed by courts. For instance, in 2022, Trump filed a lawsuit to stop James’ probe into his business practices, alleging it was a politically motivated attack. The court dismissed the suit, and Trump later withdrew it.

Trump has supported federal investigations into James’ conduct. In May 2025, the FBI opened a criminal investigation into James over allegations of mortgage fraud, including misrepresentations on property documents. Trump has publicly expressed confidence that the Department of Justice will “do what’s right” in response to these allegations, as reported.

The ongoing legal battles between Trump and James have significant political and legal implications. James’ lawsuits have resulted in substantial penalties against Trump, including a $454 million judgment in 2024. Trump’s responses, including public criticism and legal challenges, have intensified the political discourse surrounding these cases.

As the legal proceedings unfold, both James and the Trump administration are expected to intensify their public and legal battles, with potential ramifications for future policy decisions and political dynamics.
