Gavin Newsom has $25 million proposal to ‘Trump-Proof’ California

(Crankers) It’s OK to spend $25 million when it’s not your money, or at least that’s what CA Gov. Gavin Newsom might have people thinking. The democrat wants to create a legal defense fund in hopes to ‘Trump-proof’ the state of California. This money will be used by the state’s justice department to counter the actions of incoming president Donald Trump.

Newsom made an announcement in the video, but he was heavily mocked on social media once people saw it was directed towards anti-Trump measures. People also wanted to know how much of this proposed money will come from taxpayers. Fox News quoted Newsom’s statement:

is a tent pole of the country … protecting and investing in rights and freedoms for all people” and that officials “will work with the incoming administration and we want President Trump to succeed in serving all Americans.

“But when there is overreach, when lives are threatened, when rights and freedoms are targeted, we will take action,” Newsom said. And that is exactly what this special session is about – setting this state up for success, regardless of who is in the White House.”

The report on Fox News also made readers aware that California’s Department of Justice had 122 lawsuits against Donald Trump’s previous administration. The CA DOJ spent $42 million on litigation alone and the federal government was ‘ordered’ to reimburse the state almost $60 million regarding safety grants.

Some might say that was a waste of money considering how the state of California is doing right now – and especially worse is how much taxpayer money gets wasted on things the taxpayers don’t actually need or want.

i kinda get the idea behind a legal defense fund to protect state’s interests, but where’s all this money coming from? taxpayers should know. Frank, any clue if there’s a breakdown of how they plan to use the 25mil?

Honestly, this kinda spending is why we need a rethink on where our tax dollars go. Not saying we shouldn’t defend our state’s rights, but 25mil sounds steep. Got to be more efficient ways to ‘Trump-proof’ CA without dropping that much cash. Right?

TechTerry83, I feel ya. But sometimes safeguarding laws, especially those protecting the environment in CA, might need such a defense budget. It’s all about striking a balance, I guess.

Balance? With 25 million? Sure, if the scale’s tipping towards overspending and debt. Wonder what else we could do with that chunk of change.
