(Crankers) President Donald Trump called on Republican senators to shift federal funds from subsidizing health insurance costs under the Affordable Care Act to providing direct payments to individuals, aiming to address a key issue behind the US government shutdown.
Trump said in a post: “I am recommending to Senate Republicans that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE SO THAT THEY CAN PURCHASE THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, HEALTHCARE, and have money left over.”
His remarks came as US senators convened on the 39th day of the shutdown, appearing to finally engage in serious negotiations. During Saturday’s session, senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Rick Scott of Florida, and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana expressed support for Trump’s proposal.
However, Republicans seemed to overlook the reality that consumers would still need to purchase plans from the same insurance companies and that reopening the government requires the support of eight Democrats. Moreover, the idea of replacing Obamacare with savings accounts is unlikely to gain even one Democratic vote.
My experience with Obamacare is that it was called the Affordable Care Act, but many people I’ve talked to said it was more expensive and offered less coverage.
What’s your opinion on Obamacare? Will Trump get his way or will ACA continue?
