Anti-Trump Judge Boasberg Served Role in Hillary Clinton Email Cases

By Frank BojaziMay 6, 2025Updated:September 1, 2025 News

Judge James Boasberg, currently serving as the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, has presided over several legal proceedings related to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. These cases primarily involved Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and lawsuits filed by watchdog organizations seeking access to Clinton’s emails.

August 2016: Judge Boasberg ordered the State Department to review approximately 14,900 emails discovered by the FBI during its investigation into Clinton’s private email server. These emails were to be assessed for potential work-related content and released accordingly.

January 2016: Boasberg dismissed two lawsuits filed by Judicial Watch and Cause of Action Institute. The suits aimed to compel the State Department and the National Archives to take further action to recover Clinton’s emails. The judge ruled that the government had already undertaken sufficient efforts to obtain the emails, rendering the lawsuits moot.

November 2017: After an appeals court temporarily revived the aforementioned lawsuits, Boasberg again dismissed them. He concluded that the FBI’s detailed account of its investigation satisfied the government’s obligation to recover Clinton’s emails.

Throughout these proceedings, Judge Boasberg’s rulings reflected adherence to legal standards and procedures. His decisions were based on evaluations of the government’s efforts to recover and disclose Clinton’s emails, as well as the applicability of FOIA and the Federal Records Act. There is no evidence to suggest any personal or political bias influencing his judgments in these cases.

Judge Boasberg’s involvement in matters concerning Hillary Clinton’s emails was characterized by his role in overseeing legal processes related to information disclosure and record recovery, without any indication of personal connections or impropriety.
