(Crankers) An anti-ICE protester was hit by a car and is now speaking out about the situation where she “found out” it was a bad idea.
Anahi Padilla-Oliver, a protester, was struck by a vehicle near 350 South State Street, police said.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
Speaking to ABC4.com the day after the incident, Padilla-Oliver recalled seeing others move aside as a car approached. She said the driver slowed and stopped, prompting her to stand proudly and hold her sign. Suddenly, the car sped toward her, carrying her forward a few feet before slowing enough for her to move away with help from another protester.
She believes the driver was fully aware of her before fleeing the scene. SLCPD confirmed they spoke with the driver and passenger shortly after.
Padilla-Oliver admitted the experience was unsettling but said it strengthened her resolve to speak out.
SLCPD’s Brent Weisberg, an information officer, said the driver might have been confused or concerned after protesters surrounded the car, noting some participants may have hit the vehicle with their hands.
