(Crankers) Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff has officially stated he would be in favor of doing away with the Electoral College system. Schiff was speaking with Bill Maher, late night television host on HBO, about the issues at hand.

One of the things that Schiff stated, specifically, was regarding possible constitutional changes. Schiff stated: “I think we’re better off focusing on discrete amendments to the Constitution to overturn Citizens United and make sure that we can have elections untampered or uninfluenced by excessive expenditures and dark money… And I would favor doing away with the Electoral College system.”

Schiff further stated that he believes the original Consitution had multiple “mistakes” and he would not use the current Constitution if a new one was to be made. Schiff also suggested that he would not put trust into Republicans if they were involved in writing a new Constitution. Schiff said that Senators like Mike Lee and Mitch McConnell would be considered “jokers” and the audience thought this was funny.

A seven minute video clip with Rep. Adam Schiff and Bill Maher is below showing their political discussion and demeanor in general.

If Bill Maher had a Republican on the stage, they might have said something similar about Democrats as political parties appear to be very divided this year.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, but Donald Trump won the election with the electoral vote. Not long after that, there was many Democrats calling to abolish the Electoral College, despite considering the reason it exists is to protect the smaller states and allow them to have an equal voice in elections.
