(Crankers) PA Democratic Senator John Fetterman voted to open the government, then some time after that he was hospitalized.
I’m not saying the two things are connected, but the timing was skeptical that’s for sure! Just kidding, he fell due to a heart condition.
Fetterman was briefly hospitalized this week after suffering a fall linked to a cardiac rhythm disturbance, his office and multiple news outlets confirmed.
Fetterman, 56, was out for a morning walk near his home in Braddock, Pennsylvania, when he became light-headed and collapsed. According to statements from his office, the episode was caused by a ventricular fibrillation flare-up, a serious irregular heartbeat. The fall resulted in facial injuries, including cuts requiring approximately 20 stitches across his nose and forehead. The injuries were described as minor.
He was transported to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he remained under observation while physicians adjusted his medications and monitored his heart condition. Fetterman’s office said he stayed longer than required for the fall itself so doctors could ensure his treatment plan was stable.
The senator later posted a photo on social media showing the stitches and wrote that he had returned home after treatment. News agencies confirmed his release, including Reuters, which reported that Fetterman thanked medical staff and said he planned to resume his work in Washington.
Fetterman has a history of cardiac conditions. He was previously diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation, which contributed to a major stroke in 2022 during his Senate campaign. Following that stroke, he received a pacemaker with a defibrillator to regulate his heartbeat. His office said this week’s incident was related to those existing heart issues.
According to the Associated Press, Fetterman’s staff stated that his medical team was “fine-tuning” his medication regimen during his hospital stay. They emphasized that he suffered no new long-term injuries and that his condition was stable upon discharge.
The hospitalization occurred during an active legislative period. Fetterman had participated in Senate activity days prior, including work tied to government shutdown negotiations. No timeline changes to his Senate duties have been announced.
Fetterman’s office has said he will follow medical guidance but intends to return to Washington as planned.
