More news for President Trump as Lehigh University has rescinds his honorary degree after Trump supporters breached the Capitol in DC on January 6, an event that ended with numerous people losing their lives and multiple arrests and investigations still ongoing.
This honorary degree was granted to President Trump over 30 years ago, but swiftly removed after a vote was taken this week. the vote was held by Lehigh’s board of trustees.
Lehigh’s student newspaper called “The Brown and White” reported on the rescinded degree, confirming it on Twitter with a brief statement saying, “BREAKING: Lehigh Board of Trustees votes to rescind and revoke the honorary degree awarded to President Trump in 1988. The decision came after a special session of the Executive Committee on Thursday and was fully affirmed earlier today.”
Trump received the honorary degree from Lehigh University when he spoke at their commencement ceremony back in 1988.
The Board of Trustees posted an exceptionally brief statement on the matter, and offered no further comment to CBS News. The statement read, “In a special session Thursday of the Executive Committee of the Lehigh University Board of Trustees, the members voted to rescind and revoke the honorary degree granted to Donald J. Trump in 1988. The full Board of Trustees affirmed the decision today.”
A petition made several years ago gained just over 78,000 signatures in hopes to remove Trump’s honorary degree back then, stating that President Donald Trump did not live up to standards and values set by Lehigh University.
