The infamous ‘Hanoi Jane’ is making headlines again. This time Jane Fonda was talking with Bill Maher, and he was telling her about how the Democrats went to the extreme left. Fonda wasn’t believing it, but Bill Maher just had to tell her how it is.
Eric Abbenante provided the text below on X:
Bill Maher: “They just think the far left has gone so nutty on so many issues.
Jane Fonda: “That’s what they’re being told.”
Bill Maher: Because it’s true. You think the far left does nothing crazy?”
Jane Fonda: “What do you mean when you say far left?”
Maher: “NAACP last year issued a travel advisory. You know where they issued a travel advisory for black people not to go? Yeah, Florida. Every day there’s stories like that where that just makes people roll their eyes and go, Are you people nuts? Do you really think men can get pregnant?”
Jane Fonda: “So I’ve never heard about men getting pregnant. I’ve never heard about this argument. It’s it must be some part of what you call the far left that is so minuscule.
Maher: “No, Jane. Well, it’s not minuscule. I guess I assume it’s because you are locked into media that just never, never wants anyone in their audience to know anything sketchy about the blue team.” ‘What do you mean when you say far left?’ You, Jane.”

Maher has a point about the extreme positions some take, but lumping all Democrats or the ‘far left’ as he calls it into one category feels a bit simplistic. Not all progressive ideas are ‘nutty’, and it’s essential to differentiate between constructive discourse and fringe views. Does anyone else think the real issue is how polarized discussions have become?
Totally get where ur coming from, discussions are definitely more like arguments these days
I find it interesting how Maher addresses these topics with guests from varying political backgrounds. It underscores the importance of having dialogues across the political spectrum. However, it’s crucial to question and verify the examples given, such as the NAACP’s travel advisory. Understanding the context behind such decisions is key.
jane fonda’s response is so on point, it’s like not everyone from the left or right is extreme, media just blows things out of proportion sometimes. we gotta focus more on what unites us rather than divides us imo
Uniting sounds great in theory, but have you seen how divided we are? It’s not just the media; it’s a deeper issue.
yeah i know it seems tough but like, gotta start somewhere right?
Oh, the age-old debate of who’s more out of touch. Here’s a wild idea – maybe, just maybe, both sides have their extremes? Nah, that’s too rational. Let’s go back to bickering over who’s crazier.
